Moms mental health

Actualizado: 23 nov 2020

Feeling overwhelmed can sometimes be a mental issue more than actually having too much on our plate. If you are anything like me, an overthinker, planner, organizer and basically obsess about even things you can't control , this section may help you with some ideas on what to focus your attention on and give you a bit of perspective.

1. Read! something simple like reading a good book can help give you some perspective and allow yourself to focus on what is really going on in your life. Sometimes women have a hard time gaining this perspective because we get so involved in dealing with our every day life that we forget about the bigger picture. Whether you like classic literature, biographies, or currently trending topics, there is something for you. Here is my list of reading materials for mom's mental health:

  • Classic literature: Jane Eyre being a book that definitely gave me some perspective on the concept of feminism. Looking back at how women's roles in our society have evolved can give you some of that much needed perspective.

  • Biographical gem: Michelle Obama's book Becoming has become one of my favorite books. Incredible source of perception from a strong confident woman who is simply fantastic in every way.

  • Magazines and social media: https://www.cosmopolitan.com may be right up your alley if you enjoy reading about more current issues and want something you can digest quickly. On Instagram I have also been taking a look at different recommendations made by women which can also be of help when looking for a good book to read. Natalie Portman has quite a list of really interesting books related to environmental issues, nutrition, and issues that as women we may be very interested in that can be found in her Nat's Book Club section.

2. Hobby time! Find the thing that takes you away from your cute little obsessive behavior. In my case I enjoy baking, some sort of exercise, Instagram time, and of course finding a good series that can make me cry, laugh, or distract me just enough to relax.

  • Baking relief: Although now what is really popular may be a specific low calorie, low carb, low fat, low sugar, low whatever diet, the following blogs may help you get your bake on and in addition to baking they are very well written and organized by moms and entrepreneurs who will delight you with their delicious recipes. Sally's Baking Blog , Browned Butter Blondie, and bakerbynature. In addition to their blogs they also make some recommendations as far as products that work best and in my experience baking, i have found Bob's Red Mill products such as their Bob's Red Mill Organic Rolled Oats which I use on one of Sally's oatmeal cookie recipe.

  • Pet Therapy: I am a huge dog lover and that may not be the case for everyone but I don't think there is anything more relaxing than curling up with my dogs. In the past couple of years I have also reconnected with my love for these trustworthy companions through the world of dog shows and breeding of pure bred dogs, specifically dachshunds. It is time consuming and at times difficult but what rewarding experience in life isn't?
